Abstract
The action of anhydrous hydrogen bromide or iodide on 3-hydroxyglutaronitriles or glutacononitriles leads to 2-amino-6-halopyridines in excellent yield. In conjunction with the facile method for the synthesis of the starting materials, this represents a mode of easy access to previously unavailable simple pyridine derivatives.
