Abstract
In psychopathology research, the selection of research subjects is a critical early step in the research design process. There are several decisions that a researcher must go through related to recruitment strategies, selection of control groups, developmental issues of the participants, and ethical responsibilities. Of course, all of these choices are dependent on the study's intended aims and design, as well as any feasibility or logistical limitations. Unfortunately, there are few definitive solutions to these decisions, leaving the researcher to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each of these methodological choices.
