Abstract

“Queer SF” briefly sets out eight moments of interconnection between queer theory and science fiction and points to the ways in which both articulate similar practices and aims. The chapter then establishes three tendencies of contemporary queer science fiction, including SF that addresses queerness obliquely, SF that addresses queerness directly but does not make it central to the text, and SF that addresses queerness directly and makes it central to the narrative. The chapter then examples nine texts, three in each category, including works by Samuel R. Delany, Lisa Bunker, and Rivers Solomon.
