Abstract

The Rutherford-type cable of FReTC, recently proposed for high-current and high-field applications in the REBCO durable cabling method using a flat core former, was shown to be fabricated from tape spools in a single process. A FReTC cabling machine was developed, and the production method of a full-size 60 kA cable, consisting of 400 REBCO tapes, was successfully demonstrated. Characteristics of a FReTC conductor were discussed: improved hysteresis loss reduction, engineering current density, and the limitation of twist pitch were evaluated quantitatively, compared with TSTC conductors by designing various FReTC and TSTC conductors.
