Abstract

The complexes [(trpy)(bpy)M-OH2]2+ (M = Ru, Os; trpy = 2,2',2''-terpyridine; bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) have been prepared and their redox properties in aqueous solution investigated by using electrochemical techniques. Evidence for two one-electron redox processes has been obtained for M(IV/III) and M(III/II) couples and for an irreversible Os(IV/V) oxidation. In certain pH ranges the couples are proton dependent because of loss of both protons and electrons upon oxidation.
