Abstract

Particle detectors have played an important role in scientific observation since their creation over a hundred years ago, contributing to the discovery of elementary particles, advancing the fields of astrophysics and high-energy nuclear and particle physics, and impacting biology, nuclear medicine, and environmental studies. An examination of the literature demonstrates an increasing amount of research on particle detectors over the past two decades. This article describes the literature trends and reviews the types and contributions of particle detectors over time.
