Abstract
Onlay repair of ventral or incisional hernia (VH) is based on creation of lipocutaneous flaps and placement of the prosthetic mesh on the anterior fascia. It was developed by Jean-Paul Chevrel in the 1970s and is losing its popularity during the last two decades due to wider adoption of sublay techniques. Open onlay repairs are known for higher rate of surgical site complications, including seromas, mesh infections, and dermal flap necrosis (Video 15.1).
