Abstract
The appointment of two major commissions, The Pew Oceans Commission and The U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy, to look and protect the oceans that are depleting due to several reasons, are discussed. Several reasons for the depletion of oceans are due to excessive and destructive fishing, loss of wetlands, pollution from industries and invasion of aquatic plants. The Pew Commission focused on living marine resources while the U.S. Commission looked at a broader range of issues. The U.S. needs international cooperation for this purpose to protect the oceans and one such area that would prove vital is the global warming.
