Simultaneous Occurrence of Babesiosis and Lyme Disease

To the Editor: Physicians practicing in areas where both babesiosis and Lyme disease are prevalent should be aware that these infectious diseases can occur simultaneously, as shown by the following case report. A 36-year-old man, a summer resident of Shelter Island, was seen at the emergency room of the hospital on July 1, 1979, with a history of sore throat and headaches during the previous two weeks, fever of two days' duration, and hemoptysis on the previous day.
