Abstract
Immediate loading of dental implants has been refined continuously within the last 30 years. Different concepts of immediate loading have demonstrated statistically proven convincing prosthetic options, including edentulous, partially edentulous, removable, and fixed restorations. Differing options for treatment exist, including concepts like a custom-fabricated suprastructure (eg, a bar), but also prefabricated telescopic abutments. The purpose of this study was to critically evaluate and present this treatment protocol in the edentulous mandible. Utilizing the Albrekts-son criteria for the success rate, the analysis showed a success rate of 95.16% using immediate loading concept and implants placed in healed ridges and 89.86% in conjunction with immediate implant placement. After evaluation and discussion of the collected data with already presented data of immediate loading in the literature, the conclusion was positive for the tested treatment concept. The advantages were the tapered implant-abutment connection, the function of the prosthesis as a wound dressing, a bridge-like design for the prosthesis, immediate restoration improving esthetics and function, shorter treatment time, optimal plaque control, economical aspects, and a higher comfort—particularly for the elderly patient. As a result, immediate loading of dental implants using prefabricated telescopic abutments seems to be a viable prosthetic option with a high success rate.
