Some management implications of sedimentation in the Hudson- Raritan estuarine system.

The Hudson-Raritan estuarine system is significantly impacted by human activity. Deposition of fine-grained sediment in dredged areas appears to be one of the major sinks for sediment and the dredging and disposal of this sediment is the principal mechanism for exporting sediment to the ocean. Sand is transported in two separate and distinct pathways. One of these is north of the Highlands gorge and fed by local sources. The other is up-estuary from the mouth with, perhaps, an oceanic source. -from Authors
