Spatially Distributed Representation of Taste Quality in the Gustatory Insular Cortex of Behaving Mice

Abstract

Relying on two-photon and widefield calcium imaging in behaving mice, Chen et al. demonstrate that taste representations are spatially distributed in the superficial layer of the gustatory cortex (GC), with no sign of spatial clustering or topography. These data reveal that GC uses a spatially distributed coding strategy for representing taste.
