Abstract
Microscopic examination of stone artifacts from Middle Paleolithic occupations ofKebara Cave (Mount Carmel, Israel) reveals wear patterns consistent with the interpretation of these objects as hafted projectile points. These results contradict recent hypotheses that technologically-assisted hunting (i.e., with projectiles) was a subsistence strategy practiced only by the anatomically-modern hominids of the Late Pleistocene.
