Abstract
The structure and composition of the passive films formed on 304 stainless steel in deaerated In H//2SO//4 were studied by RHEED, XPS and AES. The stability of the passive films as a function of passivation potential and passivation time were investigated. The role of bound water in affecting the stability of the passive films is discussed.
