Abstract

The alkylisocyanobenzoates 1 (a: CNC6H4-CO2Me-4; b: CNC6H4-CO2Et-4; c: CNC6H4-CO2Me-3) were prepared. Reaction of [Fe(η5-C5H5)Cl(CO)2] with 1a,b in refluxing benzene, followed by ion exchange with NH4PF6 in acetone affords the complexes [Fe(η5-C5H5)(CNC6H 4-CO2R-4)3][PF6] (2a,b). The complexes [FeI2(CNC6H4-CO2R)4] (3a-c), [CoI2(CNC6H4-CO2Me-4)4] (4) and [PdI2(CNC6H4-CO2Me-4)2] (5) form in the reactions of the metal iodides with the respective isocyanides. The solid state structures of 3b, 4 and 5 were determined by X-ray crystallography. 3b: space group P21/c, a = 9.042(1), b = 17.424(1), c = 13.417(1) Å, β = 90.92(1)°, Z = 2, 2427 unique reflections, R = 0.029, Rw = 0.038. 4: space group P-1, a = 12.060(6), b = 13.316(8), c = 15.67(1) Å, α = 79.23(4), β = 81.16(4), γ = 62.66(6)°, Z = 2, 3206 unique reflections, R = 0.053, Rw = 0.063. 5: space group P-1, a = 7.796(2), b = 8.012(2), c = 10.162(2) Å, α = 71.42(2), β = 68.15(2), γ = 66.19(2)°, Z = 1, 1618 unique reflections, R = 0.022, Rw = 0.029. 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
