Abstract

A study of the effect of temperature on the dislocation structures in notched ice crystals in constant strain rate tests was performed in order to investigate the fundamental processes involved in the brittle-ductile transition in ice. It has been shown that there is far more dislocation activity around notches at high temperature (-7.8°C) than at lower temperatures (-40 and -60°C).
