Abstract

At strong coupling Coulomb interactions are mediated by the gauge fields on short rather than long time scales. As a result, gauge theories such as N = 4 SYM and QCD in their Coulomb phase support light and heavy bound composites, e.g. gg, qg and qq. The latter contribute sizably to the thermodynamics, e.g. pressure and entropy, and affect substantially the kinetics, e.g. short mean free paths. The colour conductivity of the strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma is large, causing substantial quenching of high energy jets.
