The thing about rainbows

Rainbows have always been an irrestible topic of investigation since ancient times. The analysis of rainbow has challanged theorists and, until recent times, often required revolutions in methodology. Although many scientists had written about optical theory behind rainbows, Newton's Opticks became a touchstone for poets who began to fear that scientific theories of light would destroy the wonder of the rainbow. To remove the fear and the threat, and ratify the peaceful co-existence of the two images, it is important to demonstrate that scientific images do not simply draw down the curtain on aspects of nature, but also open new windows on it.
