Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Thyroid inflammation or “thyroiditis” has a wide spectrum of etiologies including bacterial and viral infections, drug reactions, and autoimmune disease. The specific etiology can be narrowed down by determining the presence of pain and the acuity of symptoms. Treatment ranges from medications such as antibiotics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and thyroid hormone to surgical drainage or decompression.
