Touch-based haptics for interactive editing on point set surfaces

Abstract

A new point-based geometry representation designed for dynamic physics-based sculpting exploits implicit surfaces, point-sampled surfaces, and haptic feedback. The system has two classes of tools: haptic and geometric or topological. Haptic tools let users perform direct sculpting and deformation with force feedback, and enhance appearance because users can paint directly on the point set surface. Topological tools change the underlying object's shape with the use of embossing and engraving and Boolean operations.
