Abstract

Tracheal stenosis in the adult can be classified into intrinsic vs extrinsic. When life-threatening, the focus should be on establishing an airway with the possibility of emergent dilation or coring. Subsequent workup will identify the underlying etiology of the stenosis and direct the treatment toward systemic (chemoradiation for malignancies), surgical (resection vs ablation), or palliative (stent vs dilation).
