Abstract
A general, robust procedure for handling blanked or hole-cut regions in overset grids is presented for high-order solvers. The procedure involves the use of a fringe of nodes at hole-cut boundaries sufficient to maintain the order of the solver scheme across the hole-cut region. With high order filters, the procedure utilizes a formulation at the hole-cut boundaries to avoid the prohibitive expense of using a large number of nodal points to maintain the order of the filter scheme. Calculations show that the accuracy is not adversely affected for configurations that include a hole-cut region relative to those configured (with more complicated grid systems) to avoid using a hole-cut region.
