N2 - Ultrafast spectroscopy can measure real-time protein dynamics, but yields limited structural information. Here we use unnatural amino acid substitution to place an IR absorber at specific locations in light activated proteins. Ultrafast pump - transient IR probe spectroscopy then yields unique site-specific data on protein structural dynamics.
