Abstract
The relationship of broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA) with mineral density, trabecular architecture and bone stiffness was examined. Seventeen cubes of trabecular bone harvested from sheep femoral condyle were evaluated using micro CT and mechanical loading. Results showed BUA to be highly correlated with bone mineral density (BMD) and trabecular spaces. Further, correlation coefficient between BUA and trabecular stiffness was 0.72, higher than that between BMD and trabecular stiffness.
