VARIATION OF MAGNETOACOUSTIC SURFACE WAVE DELAY TIME WITH FREQUENCY AND MAGNETIC FIELD IN YIG.

Abstract

A meander line, with 10 pairs of lines and tuned to approximately 35MHz, was used to excite magnetoelastic-surface waves on a YIG plate. The meander lines were deposited on a (1,1,1) surface of YIG and aligned along the (1,1,0) direction. Several magnetoelastic-surface wave modes could be observed over a narrow range of magnetic fields (from about 150G to 350G). When the d. c. magnetic field and the direction of surface wave propagation were parallel, the delayed signal was 80 dBs below the exciting signal without any attempts at impedance matching. The delay time of the signal could also be changed by changing the magnetic field, however the change produced only about one-half as much variation in the delay time as the frequency change. In both cases, the variation of delay time was linear with frequency or magnetic field.
