Abstract

A study was conducted on the absorption characteristics of two red fluorescent protein chromophore ions. It was demonstrated that the redshift of DsRed compared to GFP may be a direct consequence of the extended conjugated system in the DsRed chromophore. Thus, the present storage ring technique reveals vibrational progressions of the gas-phase chromophore ions.
