Abstract
The use of a general framework, designed to support a wide range of user defined operations on data is examined for the implementation of visualization methods. Active data repository (ADR) which is an object oriented framework is developed to provide support for applications that employ range queries with user defined mapping and aggregation operations. Experiments are performed on a PC cluster running Linux and the grids are scaled at each time step by a factor of up to 256, representing application scenarios in which data for a single time step does not fit into aggregate system memory. A ray-casting based volume rendering algorithm is also developed for visualizing out of core data sets on rectilinear meshes.
