Abstract
Many emergent applications in quantum information science and technology (QIST), especially in computing, communication and sensing, are enabled by engineered quantum states of light and matter. A major challenge for synthesizing quantum states of light is that photons on their own do not interact with each other. Yet modern quantum optics research has developed ways to engineer such photon-photon interactions through deterministic photon-emitter couplings.
